Competition

The supply chain innovation case studies serve to educate and provide valuable insights, lessons, and applicable takeaways at the annual conference and via the case studies published on the CSCMP website.

STEP 1: Intent to Submit – obtain corporate/organizational approval/commitment to participate. Submit your intent form with 1) project title and 2) 50-word abstract by Monday, January 23 2012 (or no later than Monday, March 12, 2012) to cscmpresearch@cscmp.org. A printable intent to submit form can be scanned and emailed. Participants who are selected as finalists must commit to having two project team representatives (one must be a customer or shipper to enhance session objectivity) at the conference before forwarding their intent to submit.

STEP 2: Written Case Studies – develop a 10-page and/or 4,000 word, double-spaced case study submission in MS Word to be sent electronically to cscmpresearch@cscmp.org by Monday, March 12, 2012–sorry, no time extension requests can be accommodated. Send your case study, an executive summary/title page, and 3-4 charts/graphs/tables–the summary/title page and charts/graphs/tables can be in addition to the 10-page/4,000 word limit. Please note that there is no limit to the number of figures/charts/tables which can be included as part of the ten-page maximum, but this may have an impact on the content/case study quality evaluation.

The following outline should be used as a guide for an executive summary/title page:

Title:
Organization:
Author(s):
Speaker(s)/Presenter(s):
Summary of the initiative: (one to two paragraphs)
Innovation statement: sentence or two describing what is innovative about the initiative
Impact statement: sentence or two describing the measureable results/benefits from the innovation
Applicability: sentence or two describing why it will be of interest to CSCMP members

Situations described in the case studies will have demonstrated excellence, innovation, and return on investment in addressing a significant supply chain challenge. Possible areas in which innovation excellence can be achieved include:

STEP 3: PowerPoint and Oral Presentation – This step pertains to those selected as finalists only. Finalists selected to present their case studies at the conference must provide a final draft of the slides (using the CSCMP template for the title slide [provided at a later date]) by Monday, June 25–no time extension requests accommodated. The slides will be reviewed and feedback for improvement/strengthening provided. This is not part of the tabulation process, however it is a requirement.

The oral presentation by finalist teams should be accompanied by a clear PowerPoint presentation. The presentation should articulate the case study to an audience that has not been exposed to the team’s written case study. The oral presentation is an important part of the evaluation process of selecting a winner. The panel of judges will evaluate the presentation as it is delivered to the audience.

Finalists will be provided two complimentary registrations to the conference but any additional team members, and all travel, accommodation, and related expenses are the responsibilities of the finalist teams.

DEFINITION OF INNOVATION: new processes, new technology, or new applications of old processes and technology that create quantifiable and sustainable results in terms of cost savings, revenue, customer satisfaction, etc.
